Product Code: HCx-FFF-R502

A rapid test for the detection of foetal fibronectin antigens in vaginal secretion specimen that can be visually read or with the use of the All-Test Reader.

The fFN Rapid Test in cassette format (for use with a sample of vaginal secretion) has been designed to detect fFN through interpretation of colour development. Anti-fFN antibodies are immobilised on the test region of the membrane in the test strip. During the test, the specimen is allowed to react with coloured anti-fFN antibodies conjugated colloidal gold, which were impregnated on the sample pad of the test. The mixture then moves on the membrane by a capillary action and interacts with reagents on the membrane. If fFN is present above detectable limits in the specimen, a coloured band will form in the ‘T’ region of the membrane. Presence of this coloured band indicates a positive result, while its absence indicates a negative result.

Clinical Significance

Foetal fibronectin is a ‘glue-like’ substance that binds the membranes around the baby to the uterus. It can be found in the birth canal (vagina) at the very beginning of pregnancy when this bond is first forming and then again at the end of pregnancy. If this substance is found in the vagina between 23 to 34 weeks of pregnancy it may mean that the body is getting ready to have your baby early.
